Ok, so my two week detox is over and I want to tell you some of what the results are so you might go and try this yourself. I was doing the Master Cleanse which means I only drank water with fresh lemon juice, cayenne pepper and a bit of maple syrup. I also drank plain water and did salt-water flushes every morning, which is the worst part, (but I got used to it), where I mixed 1 or 2 teaspoons of sea salt in 1 litre of warm water and drank it all at once. This acts as a sweep of you colon... so you have to be near a washroom. It's very effective and I suggest doing it because with the lemonade you detox your body, but then you need to move all those toxins out or they will just reabsorb back into your system. I also drank a laxative tea every night.
I finished the detox with something that might seem odd to you... a colonic, which is where you go to a specialist who irrigates your colon with water for about an hour. It's not painful or humiliating- actually it's something pretty gentle (from my experiences), but this is not a necessary process, and not considered part of the Master Cleanse.
Main Ingredients for the Master Cleanse Recipe:
- Pure Filtered Water
- Grade B Organic Maple Syrup (the darker the better)
- Organic Cayenne Pepper
- Organic Lemons
- Sea salt - Unrefined (Not iodized)
- Laxative tea
- Natural Herbal Tea (not caffeinated)
#1 (single serving):
- 2 Tablespoons of organic lemon Juice (about 1/2 a Lemon)
- 2 Tablespoons of Organic grade B maple syrup (not the commercial maple flavored syrup you use on pancakes)
- 1/10 Teaspoon Cayenne pepper powder
- Ten ounces of filtered water
- 60 ounces of filtered water
- 12 Tablespoons of organic grade B maple syrup
- 12 Tablespoons of organic lemon juice
- 1/2 Teaspoon cayenne pepper powder
Even as a vegan I could feel that my body needed to detox, as I don't always eat organic food if it's not available, and I have a bit of a sweet addiction form time to time. Also fear and stress can store toxins in the body as well.
A sense of accomplishment comes from sticking with it. I feel wonderful now- my skin is nicer, my stomach is flat and my eyes look clear. It amazes me that I had plenty of energy during the whole process. I rode my bike to and from work every day as usual, I went on hikes, and even had the will power to bake an awesome vegan cake for a birthday party without tasting a crumb! (that was hard actually). I didn't feel hungry during the detox- I felt needy, like I wanted to eat because everyone else was eating, but I was definitely not hungry. There were no hunger pains.
I lost about 10 pounds as a side effect (that I wasn't necessarily aiming for, but it's nice). The job of our purifying organs (the liver and kidneys), are to filter out and rid the body of toxins, but they can't always deal with everything because we never give them a rest - we eat too much. So our bodies store the toxins in fat cells to be dealt with at a later date.
When do a detox our body stops creating the strong acids that break the food down in our stomachs, and burns fat cells for energy, releasing the toxins (how many times can I say toxins?).
Well I'm so excited about what I did that I thought I'd tell whoever cares to listen. I hope you all try it- you can definitely do this! Your body will thank you soooo much and you'll feel like a brand new person when you're done.

Hello, Lyn :) I saw your video a few days ago and now it's gone so I'll ask here. How do you keep yourself warm during a fast? As I understand, you can't drink tea. I am now on my ease in day and those smoothies and juices are so cold and it's -30 Celsius outside.
Karolina, from my personal experience I have found that heating up simple water tastes very close to a weak tea. That works for me in the cold.
what recipe do you use for the lemonade and how much a day would you drink?
Thanks! your blog is sexy by the way xx
This sounds like quite an interesting experience. I'm not sure that i am ready for such an experience yet but it does sound like something I would like to try in the future. Thanks for the inspiration!
Cool article and the video of that other girl who did the forty days was very inspiring. I'm going to give this a shot. Thanks for sharing!
You keep saying toxins, but specifically what toxic substances are you talking about? What studies were the source of your conclusion that this diet is effective at eliminating any toxic?
Hi there Anonymous :)
I am not a doctor, but I am only talking about my experiences with doing this rest from eating food and only in-taking the lemonade. I can feel, taste, smell the difference in my body as it goes through this process. This will sound gross, but my tongue gets covered in white for a period of time, and then clears up to become healthy and pink looking again before the cleanse in over, and my tonsils release pieces whitish bits (yuk). My sweat and breath smell so much stronger than normal and becomes normal again before the end of the cleanse. There is no energy loss or pains in my belly, and my thoughts become very clear (more easy to concentrate on tasks at hand). I know that thousands and thousands of people have been doing this for many years, and report the same symptoms, and I feel really great after I do so myself, so I am just coming from that point of view. If you don't feel called to do this then that's perfectly fine :) I know a lot of people on the internet love to bash anything that is against the mainstream for some reason, especially when it comes to things that keep us healthy and vibrant, and come from personal experience. I am not making any money from this, and I wanted to share. This will probably not be very satisfying for you, but I have done my best to explain. Thanks for asking the question, love.

Hi, I would like to ask if exercising is okay to do during the detox ? Tempted to give it a try
Thanks
Hello. So I am a college student transferring across the united states (cali to dc) in 2 weeks and you have inspired me to cleanse. I am on the road to being a vegan as not only do I love the food but the health benefits of eating right are appealing, along with the animals of course too. I leave for school in 16 days. I have skin problems though I am all natural with my skin and hair I just need something drastic because I can tell my body is full of toxins, definitely see it in my skin. Doing the oil cleansing method for my skin is great but the inside of me needs more to really make it work. People are telling me I can't do it, but I need to. I want that sense of accomplishment. So where can I find the exact directions for the detox? I cut my big curly fro off 4 months ago which was amazing now I need this. I'm also a basketball player, I can still workout right? I'm so excited, thank you for the inspiration. Sounds odd but I'm hoping that my body releases all types of things, so I know everything is working and really cleansing.
Hi Rikki! I think you are on the right track so listen to your intuition on doing the detox for your skin and body (and consciousness)! There is an inexpensive book you could read called the Master Cleanse Coach (like $11) and it's short so it will be a quick read. Here is the link:
http://www.chapters.indigo.ca/books/product/9780975572283-item.html?gclid=CN3utfeg4bgCFcU7MgodQyUA9A
There are other books too, and I think they should all be good, so maybe pick one up and you will feel more confident about doing it :)
I am not a doctor, but I have done the cleanse once or twice a year for a while now, and find it beneficial. In my experience any break we can give our digestive system is good because it allows the body to focus on healing. When animals get sick they stop eating (and of course we worry when our pets stop eating, but they know what they are doing). The detox may come out through your skin at first (along with the regular places), so don't be alarmed. It may feel like you have the flu even, and this is normal. It will clear by the end and you will feel very different.
Well good luck! It really is a pleasure to meet such a highly elevated soul as yourself :)
xoxo
