Self Transformation Is World Transformation :)
Quite often I feel like I'm not doing enough in my life to help situations on the planet. I wish there were more hours in the day, because when I go to bed I often feel like I should have done more. I can be really hard on myself, and it doesn't do me any good. I remember something my meditation teacher said: "We are here for world transformation. Self transformation is world transformation."
It's true. No one has ever made positive change in the world by forcing it on others. It has always evolved from people being inspired by the actions of one or a few good souls. By simply talking to a stranger on the street, raising our children to be compassionate, being kind to an animal, or choosing to eat high vibrational foods, we are creating change.
You never know what a smile can do for someone. Several years ago my parents received a letter with my name on it from someone I went to highschool with. As I read it I barely recalled the person I had befriended. He wrote that he had a very difficult time in school because he was gay and was beaten up and harassed all of the time. He said he often contemplated suicide. The letter was to thank me for being nice to him and to let me know that he remembered it. I cried when I realized who it was because I didn't do anything out of the ordinary for him. I simply talked to him on lunch breaks and after school sometimes. The letter ended with him telling me that his life was much better now and how happy he was to be alive.
For every action we make there is a reaction. So our job here is to have an open heart and do what we honestly feel is right. People will be inspired by this even if it isn't immediate. The seeds will have been planted and at the right time something you did will inspire them make changes in their life, which in the end, makes positive changes in the world!
