Hello my lovelies! I will be posting annoying bombardments of the amulets I make for the next while as I set up my on-line shoppe, so please forgive me for those of you who have signed up to receive my posts by email! Love you!
Waste = Food, Full Documentary! + 5 things We Can All do to Change Our Lives for the Better!
So here I am again questioning everything we do on this planet, and wondering if there is any hope for the future... I am constantly searching for inspiration that will push us that much closer to not just sustainability but a thriving, vibrant society... civilization, in the true sense of this word. As I type this, literally half of the world is living in hellish conditions that we would not accept for ourselves or anyone we love. Things will change if we open up our minds and hearts.
2. Buy second-hand items from Craigslist or our local thrift store, or better yet, do a trade with a friend. This lowers the demand for new products and prevents more crap from filling up landfills. (which = animals not eating the toxic materials and dying unnecessarily, while maintaining a balance with nature). Have a Clothing and Stuff Swap!
3. If we do not need things (and chances are we do not need them), then we ought not to buy them! Instead we should examine that part of of ourselves that feels empty and thinks it needs filling. The new things we obtain only satisfy us for a few moments and then we look for the next thing.
4. Bags. I shouldn't have to say anything else, but for the sake of whatever you care about, stop using plastic bags! How freaking hard is it to either buy a couple of reusable bags or make them yourself!?! I work at an art shoppe that gives out hundreds of plastic bags a day! And huge ones too! Not to mention all of the other toxic things we supply to artists. It's bullshit when people ask for something to be double-bagged. If humans thought two seconds ahead of time none of this would be an issue. SO EASY TO REMEDY! If we can't solve the most basic of problems like the classic plastic bag then we are doomed. So I know my readers are more conscious than the average Joe, but if you push yourself a bit further we can inspire great change, simply by being a positive influence.
5. Stop thinking that a clean and beautiful future is Utopian and impossible! Why do positive ideas = nonsensical thinking?? To be honest it pisses me off when I hear people laugh at what they call "tree-huggers". I am a proud tree-hugger! Think for yourself, do exactly what your heart, higher self or conscious mind leads you to, and I'll send out a big fuck-you to anyone who stands in the way of you "radical" free-thinkers who are trying to make this world a better place.
I just watched Waste = Food, a documentary (the link to watch it for free is at the bottom of this article), which I actually did find inspiration from. We have to go further into action, and it's so simple if we break it down:
1. If there is an option for either making it ourselves then that is the right option (example: a can of tomatoes vs just buying the fresh tomatoes to make the tomato sauce, or better yet, growing the tomatoes ourselves!). Cans = a lot of water, energy, chemicals and landfill waste. And as we all know, (or should know by now!), living a Vegan lifestyle is much, much more consistent with natural living than one who eats meat and dairy etc. (and yes, I am being self-righteous in this case, but we can go further). 2. Buy second-hand items from Craigslist or our local thrift store, or better yet, do a trade with a friend. This lowers the demand for new products and prevents more crap from filling up landfills. Here is a link to the full documentary:
At The Edge of the World Full Documentary! Sea Shepherd Conservation Society!
James and I just finished watching this amazing documentary and wanted to share it with you. At The Edge of the World is about controversial Sea Shepherd Antarctic Campaign against a Japanese whaling fleet. I am so impressed and proud that there are people like the crew of the two ships for the Sea Shepherd and all the people behind the scenes that make what they do possible. And they actually do make a difference. People can say what they will about them but I am inspired.
Whales are some of the most beautiful, intelligent and innocent creatures on this planet that we SHARE with them. These whaling vessels are in illegal waters under the guise of doing research, but really the meat ends up in the bellies of greedy, selfish people who care nothing about the likely extinction of the whales.
Watch At the Edge of the World and judge for yourself!
