The rent in Toronto is one of the highest in the world and it's where most of my income goes (well, down the toilet really). It goes toward nothing in the future so it traps us. What I really want to do is build my own house (earthbag/earthship building), which I have wanted to do for so many years now, but the accident I was in three yeas ago is still not allowing me to actually have that in my sight as I am physically not able to do certain movements (and strength) which would be required to take that on.
In the meantime I am loving our little lofty apartment in this crazy city. I am painfully aware that many many people on this planet do not even have the luxury of having a roof over their heads, and that plays a big role in why I so desperately want to learn to build in this way. I would love to travel and teach/work with people to help them build beautiful communities. I have participated in community building on a few occasions and we built lovely structures!
This is the future. Back in the hands of the people instead of environmentally destructive construction by huge companies, and mortgages that no one can afford that they will pay off for a good part of their lives.
Things are changing, slowly but surely. Well I'm off to work now (that's a whole other topic), so have yourselves a beautiful day and I'll talk to you soon :)

Lyn! My fellow Torontonian!
I lived once on the third floor of a house and loved it, it's like living in a tree house :)
Thank you for this site, I am a new vegan and am happy and proud of this decision, you have a lot of great info here that is useful and inspiring!
Hi Sophia! that's so great! Welcome aboard my dear :)

Hey you should come to the Vegan potluck in High Park for Earth Day April 22nd. I know Earth Day should be EVERY DAY but the picnic is a nice way to meet new people in the vegan community. There are over 100 people coming so far :) Check my facebook page for details (I'm not running it). xo
