Obesity has reached epidemic proportions in recent years, and is a major cause of heart disease, diabetes, depression and many other health issues. Something strange is happening, especially in the United States, where obesity has skyrocketed in as little as 20 years.
It seems to be a combination of inactivity and really bad food choices. Kids are especially at risk because television, the internet and video games are constantly accessible to them and relied upon for entertainment. Instead of going outside to play, they play inside, while sitting in front of a screen.
On top of that we are not giving our kids healthy food choices. Reversing what we've done to them means re-teaching our children how to be active by going on hikes, camping trips, riding bikes, and anything else that doesn't involve their thumbs and staring. Do a crazy thing and kick the television set to the curb, and only allow video games for an hour a day. We can start by making different food choices ourselves, and not buying the bad things. It's the only way to turn this crisis on it's head.
